Literature Text

The sun was behind the clouds that morning, completely hidden from a world longing for light.  The darkness ruled the day, shrouding all of its subjects in a dark, depressing shadow.

Dim, gloomy clouds dominated the sky, looking menacingly down at the poor, lifeless trees.  The trees covered the landscape of forgotten pasts and hopeless dreams.

As time passed, they lost their once bright green hues.  The pale green turned yellow, orange, and then brown before fading into a monotonous gray.

Traces of life vanished from the trees as they became lifeless.  The overwhelming gray continued to spread until the entire landscape was one shade of gray or another.
Gray

There were gray trees, gray bushes, gray flowers, gray rocks, gray beams of light, and gray shadows.  Not a soul witnessed the monochrome environment, for they had all given up on the future long ago.

There were neither sounds nor any scents to smell.  With everything gray, and dying, there was no reason to see.

But suddenly, the clouds parted in a single section of sky, separating to send soaring a sole strand of hope to the helpless land.

The beam disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared, the clouds rejoining to unite the grayness.

From that beam had fallen a single drop of light, a glowing, golden tear of happiness.  The tear landed into a small, shallow pond of crystal clear water.

It is believed that trickling water could be heard in that silent land coming from that pond.  The water was tinted with color and tasted like heaven.  A trip to this pond could save a life from depression and despair.  Someone out there is your drop of happiness, and they will always be there for you.  Go find them.
